Casting

When we we casting we had to think of people who would be readily available to us all of the time, and could be ready to film whenever we had to film.
At first we were going to use parents and adults as the actors in our sequence, but we soon realised that these people wouldn't always be available to us as they have to work during the weekdays.
We then went to look at who is in the drama class in our school, it is here where we have found one of our actors. Alfie and I decided to cast ourselves in the film during particular times.
Joe will be working behind the scenes unless needed on screen. The reason for us using these people for particular roles is because they bring something to our sequence, the mysterious man in the bush, will have his identity hidden. The woman who will be walking along the alley, whilst walking her dog will have a few key lines, but will have to act very dramatically and scared.
The person who will play the news reporter, possibly Alfie, will have to be very serious and look very smart as we want to make it as believable as possible. The man who is playing the man coming back from work, possibly myself, will be very laid back as well as very shocked when watching the news.

Main Task Ideas

We have been thinking of many different scenarios of what we can do for our main thriller 2 minute opening sequence. Many ideas have fallen through because they are either unrealistic to do with the equipment that is available to us, or because the idea was too complex and wouldn't have been finished in the time allocated to complete this task.We eventually narrowed it down to two different ideas, the idea of a chase sequence and the idea of a stalker sequence. We went for an idea which is basically in the middle of the two.

We then thought where can we film this? We wanted it down an alley or a dark lit road so our group recognised a prime location up near Pinehill playing fields.

Chosen sequence: The idea is that it would start at an everyday normal persons house who has just come in from work. The person, who is preferably a man has just come in from work and has gone to the kitchen to get a drink and returns to sit in the living room and watch tv, he is flicking through channels and the news comes up. It is now where the story has been introduced, it is a news flash which as been previously recorded by ourselves. The camera pans from the man watching tv and goes live to the news reporter and how he is explaining what has happened in a twisted murder in Hitchin.
The filming now flashes to black and white sequence to show that it has gone back in time where a lady who is walking a dog down an alley way is being watched by someone from the bushes with a hand held camera. You can hear heavy breathing and the snapping and cracking of twigs and leafs. The man makes too much noise and the woman becomes conscious of the man in the bush, he steps out and begins to edge towards her. She recognises the man and begins to threaten him that if he comes any closer he knows what would happen to him.
He begins to walk after her and the chase begins. The camera is set up down the alley and as the woman and man runs towards the camera the position of the camera changes to face the floor and the audience see the footsteps of the actors run past.
As they run into the distance the sequence cuts back to the news report sequence where you find out that the man has been killed in this sequence. But how and why?

Here are a few possible font styles that could suit my thriller production titles.

Preliminary Task

Our preliminary task was to film and edit a sequence of a character opening a door, walking accross a room, and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. We were told to demonstrate a few important camera shots, such as; match on action, shot reverse shot, and the 180 degree rule.


It took us longer than expected to film our preliminary task, as the room we used on the first day was not free when we needed it the next day. To keep our continuity correct, we had no choice but to start filming from the beginning. Our second day of filming was a lot better because by now we knew what we had to do, therefore we were able to do it far quicker and more efficently.
We did waste a fair bit of time finding a vacant room, most rooms were obviously in use when we needed them. At one point we attempted to film in the drama studio, but in the end it turned out this room was useless to us as it did not have any plug sockets in convenient places.

We did have a couple of technical issues with our equipment. For example, the battery life on the camera was not very good so we constantly had to have it on charge. This limited the amount of mobility we had with the camera.



After we had filmed our sequence, we uploaded it on to the computers so we could edit it. Once we had done this we made the credits. The credits were not essential for the preliminary task, but we thought it would be good practice for our main thriller task.

I think if we were to repeat this task we should worry less about the dialogue and focus are efforts more on the camera work. It would also be a good idea for us to take it in turns filming, this would give us all a chance to practice and work on our camera skills.
